Difference between dry and dehydrated skin and how to properly hydrate your skin.
Let’s start with how to know your skin type as most people confuse their skin type it’s such a common thing.
Wash your face with mild soap-free cleanser and don’t put anything on it for 15 minutes if. Blog your face with blotting sheets and if you have oil at some spots only ( like t zone ) and dry at some then your skin type is a combination of its dry everywhere it's dry and oily everywhere it’s oily.
Now no matter what your skin type ( acne-prone too ) hydration is key! After SPF it’s the most important thing for youthful-looking skin.
Then come to your antioxidants and other actives.
Dry/Dehydrated skin
Dehydrated skin - is when your skin lacks water. It feels tight, dull. It’s when you are not drinking enough water, or because of harsh weather conditions or if you used a harsh product. (like never let a clay mask completely dry on your skin always wash it off when it’s still wet). Etc.
DRY skin - feels rougher flaky. It’s a skin type you have from birth. It lacks oil.
Our skin gets thirsty just like our bodies and needs oil and water both to maintain healthy lipid barrier function. If you only depend on moisturizers to hydrate your skin then you are wrong and your skin will always suffer it’s the same with water vice versa.
This is how you can properly hydrate your skin to keep it glowing and plump and always youthful.
Step 1:-Use hyaluronic acid serum - invest in a good quality one of you can. I personally keep switching between Barbara Sturm and SkinCeuticals and the ordinary version with b5 which is very affordable.
It is naturally produced in our bodies, and it can hold 1000 times weight in water to retain all the moisture in our skin.
Step 2: always seal HA acid with a moisturizer (oil-based better ) if your skin is too oily you can opt for lighter ones accordingly but no way you should skip this step after your antioxidant and hyaluronic acid serums. It helps seal it all in.
Note for oily skin people and acne-prone skin -using the right face oils or oil-based moisturizer can actually balance your oil production and clear out your acne which might be due to poor lipid barrier function because of dehydration in the skin.
Top oils for oily skin -
Rosehip oil loaded with vitamin c
Grapeseed oil great for oil cleansing
Squalene oil absorbed so easily great for moisturizing
Jojoba oil great for acne-prone skin as well
Tea tree oil for acne again.
Don’t forget to drink and eat your water of course!
